Maximum enjoyment on the way through the Hohe Tauern - Europe's second largest national park. Hike 6-8 days from place to place. From the Gastein Valley to Rauris, to the Dienten Grasberg, into the valley of pastures (alps), to Grossarl and through the Gamskarkogel back to Bad Hofgastein.

1st day: Arrival in the Gastein spas Valley (Bad Hofgastein) and overnight at 4 Star Superior Hiking Hotel Zum STERN
2nd day / 1st stage: Hiking from Bad Hofgastein to the Rauris valley over Stanzscharte and overnight at the hiking hotel Rauriserhof ****
The hotel is at 875m. The hiking bus (stops directly at the hotel) brings you to the Angers valley 1,198m, pass the Angers stream in the lower sections, past the Wolfstall (wolf shed) you have to cope with the steeper stretch of the walk (about 80 meters) through the Hochwald (upper forest) to Gadaunerer Almen at 1,830m – Rest and snacks at the Felding hut. Then it goes on over the high alp past the Kaltbretterkopf (cold boards head) the trail to Stanzscharte (punched notch) (2,102 m). A magnificent panorama of the Hohe Tauern opens up. Descent to the Stanz Alm 1,786 m, stop for snacks (mid-June to late September) and then on to Bucheben 1,070m. Bus ride (post, or hiking bus) to the hotel Rauriserhof.
3rd day / 2nd stage: Hiking from Rauris over Embach and Maria Elend to Dienten at the Hochkönig and overnight at the Vital Hotel Post ****
From the hotel Rauriserhof you hike towards Schriefling Bauer, 320 meters higher. As an alternative, we can bring you up with the hikers bus to Schriefling (1,272 m) where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the Rauris. There your walk starts along the flower trail, through a mushroom-rich forest trail in the Steinbach ditch and continues through the lush flora up to Wastelalm (1,544 m). After a short stretch of forest trail the hike continues through a changing forest path to the small pilgrimage chapel Maria Elend (1,123 m). From there you reach Embach in about 20 minutes, from Embach the hiking bus will bring you to Dienten.
Day 4 / Stage 3: Hiking from Dienten to Hinterthal on the Klingspitz (Grasberg) 1988 m and overnight at the Country Hotel Schafhuber ****
With the hiking bus we take you from the Vital Hotel Post to Grünegg (1,180 m). From there your hike goes to Lettenalm. After a short rest and strengthening snacks, you walk on to "Mühllehen-Tor". Here the valley opens up and on the right side is the first striking peak, the "Klingspitz", 1,988 m, which you can climb after a somewhat steeper rise.
You will be rewarded with a fantastic panorama while you strengthen yourself with snacks from your backpack. On the way back you hike to Marbachshöhe towards Eggeralm/Hintermoos, and beyond the meadow to Eggeralm where you make a rest. From Eggeralm you continue on the forest road towards Hintermoos, where you will be met, at the Federal Sports School, by Hotel Schafhuber’s staff.
5th day / 4th stage: Hike from Maria Alm/Hintermoos back to Dienten over the Hundstein (Grasberg) 2,117m. Overnight in Vitalhotel Post****
The Hotel bus brings you to Unterberg in das inn Christenreit (1,157m). From there you hike towards Schranbach alm; shorly before the alm you change to the road No. 28B and follow this, passing the stone “Mandl” to Lohning alm. On the alm road you reach the Hundstein with the Statzer house (2,117m). The way back takes you just beneath the Hochegg, resp. Klingspitz to Marbachhöhe. Continue to Letten and Sommeralm until the alm road and there you see the mountain church from Dienten. This descent is a bit steeper.
6th day / 5th stage: Hike from Dienten-Goldegg Weng to the Grossarl valley over the Schneeberg (1938m) and overnight at Wanderhotel old Post ****
The hotel bus brings you to the Dientner Sattel (1,363m). From the Sattel there is a forest road to Tiergarten (Zoo) Alm and Klingelberg alm (1,544m), towards the Schneeberg (Snow Mountain) with 1938 m. From there you follow the path down to the valley towards St. Veit - Hochegg (route no. 447) to Distelkopf (thistle head) alm where you will make a break,
From the Distelkopf Alm continue towards Enkerbichl and Weng. The path over the meadows and passing the waterfall leads to Enkerbichl, where you get back on the road and follow it up to Weng. From Weng, the hotel bus takes guests to the Hiking Hotel Alte Post in Grossarl.
7th day / 6th stage: Hike from Großarltal over Gamskarkogel (Europe’s highest Grasberg) 2,467 m back into the Gastein Valley/Bad Hofgastein and overnight at Wanderhotel Zum Stern ****s
With the hotel hiking bus, transfer to Hüttschlag - to Hinterfeld farm - moderately rising alm path/railway to Harbachalm - continue on the road to Tofern Alm (not farmed) - and to Tofernscharte. On the Tofernscharte turn right over the ridge on the Gamskarkogel (2,467 m) and the Gamskarkogel Hut. Descent to Rauchkögerl and Rastötzen Alm, go to Annen Café, where the hike ends and the hiking taxi from hiking Hotel Zum Stern will pick you up. (Alternative: paid transfer from the Rastötzen Alm to the valley.)
